Features

Everything Ink does

A tour of what ships in version 0.1. Screenshots follow your system's light or dark theme, like the app.

01 Writing

Write in blocks, save as Markdown

The editor feels like a document and stores like a text file.

Slash menu
Press / for headings, lists, to-dos, tables, code, callouts, toggles, math, Mermaid diagrams, images, dividers and footnotes.
Formatting bar and shortcuts
A floating bar appears over selected text. Markdown shortcuts such as # and - work at the start of a line.
Drag to reorder
Grab a block by its handle and drag it to a new place.
Code, math, diagrams
Syntax highlighting in code blocks, KaTeX for formulas, Mermaid for diagrams. Diagrams follow the light and dark theme.
The slash menu open in a note, listing block types such as headings, lists, tables, code, callouts and math.

02 Linking

Notes that know about each other

Links are plain text, so they survive any tool you use later.

Wiki links
[[Page]] links to a note and [[Page#Heading]] jumps to a section.
Embeds
![[Page]] shows another note inline, so one note can be built from several.
Backlinks
Every page lists the notes that link to it, in a panel at the bottom.
Rename-safe
Rename a page or a heading and the links that point to it are rewritten.
A note embedding another note inline with ![[…]] and showing a backlinks panel at the bottom.

03 Canvas

An endless surface for ideas

Same JSON Canvas format Obsidian uses, so .canvas files open in both apps.

Cards of every kind
Markdown cards with the full block editor inside, live previews of your notes, images, and web link cards with the page title and description.
Groups and arrows
Groups fold away when you do not need them. Arrows can be curved, straight or right-angled, with your choice of arrowheads.
Tidy tools
Alignment guides, align and distribute, find-in-canvas, and Shift+1 to show everything.
Export and history
Export as PNG, SVG or PDF. Version history keeps earlier states of a canvas.

04 Boards

Kanban, built from a page

Turn a page into a board and back again. It stays a Markdown file.

Columns and cards
Each heading is a column and each to-do is a card. Drag cards and columns around.

05 Organising

08 Privacy

Your notes never leave your machine

Notes are plain .md files in a folder you choose. Ink has no account system and uploads nothing. The app's UI is bundled and its fonts are bundled. This website uses no analytics, no cookies and no third-party requests.
